Fabio Del Frate

Fabio Del Frate received the Laurea degree in Electronics Engineering in 1992 and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science in 1997, both from the Tor Vergata University, Rome, Italy. From September 1995 to June 1996, he was a Visiting Scientist with the Research Laboratory of Electronics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA. In 1998 and 1999, he was with the European Space Agency (ESA), ESRIN establishment, Frascati, Italy, as a Research Fellow and was engaged in projects concerning end-to-end remote sensing applications.

Since 1999 he is a Research Professor with the Tor Vergata University, Rome, Italy, where he teaches courses of applied electromagnetics.

He has acted and is PI in several remote sensing projects supported by ESA. He his author or co-authors of more than 150 scientific publications, with a special focus on the applications of neural networks to remote sensing. His main research topics include image classification and feature extraction, retrieval and classification algorithms with hyperspectral data, oil spills detection in SAR imagery, retrieval of atmospheric variables from satellite data, use of remotely sensed data for electromagnetic pollution monitoring.

Fabio Del Frate is a Member of Tor Vergata University Academic Senate, a Senior Member of “IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society” and a Member of “SIEM (Società Italiana Elettromagnetismo)”. He serves as a reviewer for different Remote Sensing Journals and as Associate Editor for IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters.
